Maltese copywriters, where are you?

I live in Malta. It is an island in the Mediterranean. It has one of the best diving waters in Europe (not that it does me anything good). The Maltese love cars, food, feasts, and fireworks. Their lives seem simple but joyous. Maybe they don’t need copywriters?

Because there seem to be a lack of them. The ads you see in Malta are usually pretty poor. Both in design and language. The common view among marketing people here seems to be that everyone and anyone can write. But being able to write and being able to write well is very different. I am looking for someone in Malta that is able to write well. Where are you?

In case you know of talented writer who knows some HTML and web publishing you should e-mail me at erikzona@gmail.com I might have a job for you.

You are nearing the deadline and your laptop is dead.

You are nearing the deadline. You are in some shabby Internet café in the third world. Your laptop has been subject to a small missile strike. You need to finish that picture on your USB-drive now!

Well then there is a web solution for you! Try Pixlr, web-based picture editing software.

Pixlr is free and developed in Flash. It will remind you of a Photoshop on a strict Atkins diet, but it’s quite fresh and intuitive. Why not try? Pixlr.com

Ads are like good wine

Ads are like good wine, they get better as they age. And if you do too many they make you sick! How I wish I could have tried these Wonder Sauna Hot Pants! They could have reduced my waist, tummy, hips and thighs. I especially like the look on the guy’s face in the picture. He looks like a slightly nervous and retarded giant. The product might also be slightly retarded, but how can you say no to it when it is approved by AAU USA?  I have no clue what that organisation was/is though. Another Autistic Union? Assholes Anonymous Unite? Maybe you, our dear readers, know? (Or have the energy to google it).

You are about to install some malware. Malware is bad. By reading this warning through to the end and still clicking yes you’re failing the Windows Darwin Test.

Adobe Creative Suite 4

It feels like CS3 was released yesterday, but I guess Adobe have wallets in desperate need of filling. Some news are the new scaling tool in Photoshop, a color and tone-adjustment panel, and Raw-editing. In the new Illustrator you have possibility to present up to 100 illustrations in cool artboards, a possibility to use transparency in gradients and much more!

Click on read more to see a video demo of the new Photoshop scaling tool.

E-squire, E-paper

The famous magazine Esquire released a limited version of the first page of their August edition on electronic paper. The project was sponsored by Ford who did a 2nd page ad with the same technique. The battery lasts approximately 90 days and if you put your magazine in the freezer it can last even longer!

Zooreal - illustration, 2008

One way to avoid “real” work is to draw a giraffe. This is how far I got before my eyes started hurting…

Jazz - not for everyone

This print ad by Lukasz Murgrabia (The McCann Worldgroup agency) is created for the Polish radio station, Jazz Radio. Funny and smart. However, does this attract the target group? Have a look at the other two prints of the same campaign here.
